Rui Tavares

Rui Tavares was born in Lisbon in 1972. He is a historian, writer and politician, with a doctorate in History from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, and a visiting associate professor at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He has been a researcher and visiting lecturer at New York University, the European University Institute, Brown University and the University of Massachusetts. He was a columnist for Público for around fifteen years and currently writes for Expresso and Folha de S. Paulo. He was a member of the European Parliament between 2009 and 2014, is one of the founders of LIVRE and has been a member of the Assembleia da República since 2022.
