Gonçalo M. Tavares

Gonçalo M. Tavares has been publishing books in different literary genres since 2001, with translations and editions in around 75 countries. He recently received the Prémio Formentor (2026) for his body of work. Le Quartier (O Bairro) received the Prix Laure-Bataillon, and Aprender a rezar na Era da Técnica the Prix du Meilleur Livre Étranger (2010). Twenty-two of his works have received awards in different countries; he has been shortlisted six times for the Prémio Oceanos (winning three times) and shortlisted for the Prix Médicis and the Prix Femina. His books have inspired works of theatre, dance, opera, film, visual art and architecture.
