Carlos Fiolhais

Carlos Fiolhais, who obtained his doctorate in Theoretical Physics from Universidade Goethe in Frankfurt in 1982, is Emeritus Professor of Physics at Universidade de Coimbra (UC). He was director of the Centro de Física Computacional da UC, the Biblioteca Geral da UC and Rómulo - Centro de Ciência Viva da UC. He has published more than 80 books. A scientist with more than 150 articles, he is also a science communicator with more than a thousand educational and popular science articles. He has received various awards and distinctions, including the Ordem do Infante D. Henrique in 2005 and the gold medal of the city of Coimbra in 2024. There is a library bearing his name in Coimbra, established by Câmara Municipal de Coimbra, and in Maia there is an innovation centre bearing his name, established by the respective municipal council.
